A Response to a Much-Welcomed Comment.

So I received a wonderful comment and what appears to be a thirst for more information on the shot put virtuoso Tamara Tishkevich. Right off the top of my head, I can safely say that she was a shot put champion for a decade, rising like a phoenix from '51 to best in the world in '57, after which her performance dwindled significantly. This was a time when Russian women dominated the sport, but this champion stands out as the only one of her contemporaries to be featured on many posters available on the internet. As posters are another subject of my expertise, you can see how this may be a topic that I find very, very interesting.

Since the person (Sara) who left the first comment on my first post chose to omit her last name, I must only assume that it is Diadora sponsored Tennis pro Sara Errani. Thank you for your support and interest. For those who don't know from those who do, right-handed Sara Errani hails from Bologna, Italy and is ranked 37 in the WTA. Thanks for the support, Poco Gigante.

Please keep the comments and questions coming. Your lack of knowledge can only be satiated by my abundance. As an added incentive for more comments, I had decided to donate a significant sum to the charity of Sara's choice. However, since she did not specify one, I donated it to the people behind the song "We are the World." I figured a charity single written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Ritchie (geniuses) can't go wrong. And what's the best part of any song? A celebrity vocal solo. Well that song has several, by Lionel Richie, Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon, Kenny Rogers, James Ingram, Tina Turner, Billy Joel, Michael Jackson, Diana Ross, Dionne Warwick, Willie Nelson, Al Jarreau, Bruce Springsteen, Kenny Loggins, Steve Perry, Daryl Hall, Huey Lewis, Cyndi Lauper, Kim Carnes, Bob Dylan, and Ray Charles. Imagine that wrap party!

And take it one shift at a time.

  1. I was having a bad day until I read this post. It's so refreshing to:
    a) Know that I still have some fans out there! Thank you guys, I love you always
    b) Have peace of mind that We Are The World will continue to be pressed and sold so that one day, everyone will own that single
c)Find out that Tamara was on a lot of posters. Now that's one tidbit that's left out of all the Sport Almanacs that I've read.

One question that I think you may know: Was Sir Don Bradman, Cricket Champion, really faking it when he said he got hurt in the 1932 championship game?

  2. Sorry about what happened with your match against Dinara Safina. I would have a bad day too.

I think you should stick to Tennis, Poco Gigante. Your misinformation on Don Bradman is atrocious. A sportsman of that caliber would not fake an injury, especially right after his wedding to his childhood sweetheart.
